Stromboli, 1954

This envelope was posted in Swindon, England on 6 April 1954 addressed to the Middle East Land Force in Sudan. The envelope was aboard the B.O.A.C. Comet registration G-ALYY that crashed into the sea north of Stromboli on 8th April 1954, having left Rome on its way to Cairo.  Two mail bags were recovered from the surface of the sea and their contents forwarded with an Italian cachet previously seen in use on the mail from the Philippine Airlines DC6 crash at Rome, but in violet this time: Correspondenza recuperata in seguito / incidente aereo dei  - 8 APR. 1954.
